Newt Gingrich, the Attacks On

It seems that many Republicans have forgotten that the upcoming election will pit their choice against Barack Obama. Republican candidates are all running against Newt Gingrich. Along with members of the Republican elite, they are doing their best to destroy him. Strangely, polls show the voting public is impressed with the man.

One cannot help but wonder why they treat him as they do?

* Are they envious of his unexpected success?

* Are they jealous and resentful of his vast knowledge and many accomplishments?

* Do they think that by destroying him it will make them more appealing to the voters?

* Or do they fear that, if elected, he would break up the old power base of their party and the status quo?

His critics have made unusual demands on Speaker Gingrich. They are allowed to hurl harsh, hateful, scorn, ridicule and criticism on him, but he must not respond else he will be viewed as arrogant and resentful. They can bring up personal matters about Gingrich but he cannot do the same with them. It would be viewed as mean-spirited and petty for him to do so.

When I see a bunch of bullies pile on a fellow, I tend to think more of the victim and less of the bullies.

Any front runner will get the same treatment. He has flaws that can be targeted, as we all do. It's more difficult to accept and understand when he's 'your guy,' as he is mine. Thanks for your expression

He is being attacked because he has a lot of baggage, some of it true AND some exaggerated and he has angered many in his career...many--and of course because he is the front runner. The people love him because he is smart, has great ideas, and tells it like it is. He has so much potential as a great leader. I will watch him and determine (in my own mind) if I feel his personality/character is up for the toughest job I know of. Nice article.

Don't you think all the other Republican hopefuls are ganging up on him because they think they are the personally the best choice? It's an ego race to the finish line. Newt may be the best candidate the GOP can put up to run against a tax and spend socialist, but it's become a cock fight which is harming the public's views of a conservative electorate.
