At War With Terrorists

Ten years ago Muslim terrorists landed deadly blows against America. From that day to this we have been engaged in a bitter war with them. For a few days all rallied around our president and supported the war effort. Soon the patriotism faded and partisan politics took the ascendency. While our president and military sought to defeat the aggressors who attacked us, forces in our society worked against them.

• Postmodern philosophy has taught millions that it is wrong to judge the actions of others as evil. This has led many in academia and the media to gloss over the religious motivation of the terrorists.

• The widespread belief in "Pluralism" which argues that all religions and philosophies are of equal value. Thus the public is told that Islam is a wonderful religion, and that Christianity is in no way superior to it. In fact many public voices have labored hard to convince the ignorant that Christianity is as dangerous as Islam.

• Public leaders, reporters and writers have been bound and shackled by Political Correctness. They dare not speak critically of the extremes of Islam such as the Wahhabies and others lest they them selves be severely punished by their peers. This has succeeded in keeping many Americans in ignorance about the root causes of the terrorism.

• The hatred of Christianity that prevails in much of secular America has hindered us. Representatives of this powerful subset have used the wickedness of the Islamist terrorist to cast stones at Christianity implying it is a similar danger to our nation.

• The political ideology that holds America in low esteem; that sees nothing good or noble in her has exacerbated the problem. It can only ridicule and shame her. Adherents of this twisted view have been willing to excuse and apologize for the terrorists while attacking their own nation and its values.

• The hatred of our nation’s military by many of the far Left has led them to do everything in their power to weaken our military’s hands and to intervene on behalf of the terrorists captured in combat.

• There has been the misguided political view that has driven partisans hate leaders who were conducting the war against the terrorists and do all in their power to block and defeat their efforts.

• There has been the idiocy in some quarters that makes politicians argue that really the terrorists are not at war with us nor we with them.

• The same kind of thinking has given birth to the mistaken view that if we will just absorb the blows, confess to the world that really we deserved to be knocked down, and bow to the demands of Islamic extremists they will like us. The last three years have demonstrated that this view is wrong-headed.

• There is an element of liberal guilt that makes certain folks who have been blessed and prospered by America’s greatness feel ashamed of their success. They feel that we deserve to be humbled and that we should not strike back at those of third world nations who attack us.

These things have kept us from a speedy and sure victory over the terrorists. Thus the war drags on. Religious fanatics such as we face don’t yearn for peace. They don’t abhor war. They love it. They thrive on it. They will fight until their loses are so great they are forced to flee back to their desert haunts. They fight on assuming that the average American does not have the will to defend himself or his nation, that we will, in time, give up our effort. May the memory of the 9/11 never be forgotten.
