Another Day That Lives In Infamy

Ten years ago a historic event transpired in America. Acts of war were visited upon us. Since the 1860s the wars had always been over there. On 9/11/2001, our civilians tasted the bitter cup of war. True, we have always had our share of wicked people and the random violence they perpetrated., but not acts of war with mass casualties and destruction. Never had we been attacked by a band of evil religious fanatics.
Given the prevailing secular mind-set, many in high places cannot understand that Evil is a real active force in our world. Scripture tells us of Satan, a malevolent spiritual being, who inspires evil in humanity (John 13:26-27). He has a thousand deceitful devices with which to recruit and involve people in his wicked schemes (II Cor. 2:11). Satan is described as a murderer and a liar (John 8:44). He is the unrelenting enemy of both God and man. When secular man denies that a spiritual realm exists, that neither God nor Satan actually exist, when they reject the Bible as a reliable source of information, they are left like blind men in a dark cave. They cannot recognize nor understand the evil that swirls about them.
Those with eyes to see and any degree of moral judgement know that there are people who have embraced Evil as their religion, their life and ambition. Not all of them are in the law-enforcement database. We are use to the common run of criminals, but we were not prepared for representatives of a religious movement from across the planet raining violence upon our heads.
Most Americans knew nothing of Islam. Their knowledge consisted of a few pictures in travel books or books on World Religions. This was true of most in government. Immediately, well trained Islamic apologists went to work to persuade us that the attackers had nothing to do with Islam. It was, said they, a religion of peace and love. Unfortunately, most of our media and national leaders bought the propaganda. Groups like the Council on American Islamic Relations skillfully manipulated our politicians and media using Political Correctness and cries of racial discrimination to deflect and silence the hard facts of who the enemy was and the motivation that propelled them to declare war on us.
We were fortunate to have as our president George W. Bush, who took seriously his oath to defend and protect the American people. He not only made war on the jihadists in their distant camps, he set in place defensive measures to keep them from additional attacks.
Patriotism and anger towards the aggressors flourished for a few months. Then, predictably, it began to give way to partisan politics. Political opponents were more interested in gaining power in Washington than in defeating our enemy. They turned their weapons on President Bush, his party, the CIA and our soldiers in the field. They were more interested in protecting jihadist soldiers captured on the battlefield than in protecting our soldiers and our nation. Joined by their friends in the mainstream media, there was soon a steady drumbeat of opposition to the war, to the methods used to protect us from the enemy. Some were all but giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
In time, the balance of political power shifted from conservative to liberal, in part, on the promise to end the wars. Efforts were made to pacify the enemy, but to no avail. The new administration soon discovered that the Muslim extremists had no intention of living at peace. By continuing the battle, they had everything to gain and nothing to lose. Thus the anti-war party gradually evolved into the war party...protesting all the way.
Ten years have passed and the memories of the attacks on New York and Washington have faded. People are too busy enjoying their affluent lives. No more major attacks on the homeland leaves them thinking all is well. A volunteer military means they don’t have to worry about their sons and daughters being involved in the war. The concern is the economy. People are far more concerned about their investments than the jihadists who have in large part been kept at bay.
Most Americans, including our media and progressive wing of government, had not yet learned the basic facts about the religion that drives the jihadists.
Jihad, religious warfare, is the greatest force in Islam. Religious war against infidels is plainly taught. "They who believe fight for the religion of God..." (Sura 4). "Kill those who join other gods with God, wherever you shall find them" (Sura 9:5). "Fight against them (Jews and Christians) until they pay tribute with the hand and are humbled" (Sura 9:30). In the founding and expansion of Islam, "the sword has been the great means of propagating this religion " (Marcus Dods). Not just wars, but massacres of women, children and the aged is the way of the Islamic fighter. The great massacres of the Armenians by the Muslim Turks in the early 20th century and the mass killing of Kurds by Iraq and the killing of Christians in Sudan are evidence of this. Wherever they prevail they impose a repressive theocratic government, dominated by Islamic clerics.
The fanaticism of the jihad warriors stems from their religious belief in fatalism and their belief that death in war against Christians and others will guarantee a blissful eternity in heaven with many pleasures denied in this life.
The aims of the Al Qaeda warriors are "the eradication of modern society and its replacement by a reborn 8th century caliphate of early Islam, applied world-wide." (M. C. Ott).
Islam claims over one billion adherents world wide. This is probably exaggerated by half. If ten percent of them share the faith and goals of Al Qaeda, that would amount to 100 million supporters of that radical, violent sect. It is estimated that some 6-8 million Moslems are currently in America. Half of which are attached to a mosque. In a recent poll, nine per cent of them did not condemn the terror bombings of their jihadist brethren.
With their eyes closed and their ears stopped, some foolish Americans are demanding that security measures adopted to protect us from the terrorists be relaxed or even dropped. To accept to their foolish demands will place us all in great peril. They may not know it, but the war with Islamic terrorists is not over.
In the War with Mexico the battle cry was to "Remember the Alamo." In WW II, it was to remember Pearl Harbor. We need to remember 9/11 and the evil deed done that day. President Roosevelt called the Pearl Harbor attack "a day that will live in infamy." September 11, 2011 is likewise a day of infamy.
