How and When Did We Arrive At This Point?

One part of society knows the cost involved in raising children. Consequently, they limit the children they conceive to a number they can afford. Others give no thought to the cost involved in child-rearing. They carelessly gender babies for whom they will not be able to adequately provide. Then those who have limited their procreativity are expected to provide through taxation the necessary care and provision for the children of those irresponsible parents.

One part of society must work, sacrifice, save and borrow to send its children to college. Another part, expects those who are already paying for their kid’s education to be forced by taxation to pay for the education of their children.

One part of society works, purchases and pays for its needed medical insurance. Another part does not. For some it is by choice for others it is by bad life choices. A few cannot qualify for coverage. A few are too poor. But those who have paid for their health insurance are expected, even forced by taxation, to provide health care for the others.

One part of society disciplines their spending to be able to pay for their food, clothing, lodging, their utilities, etc., the other part, for various reasons, does not. Then those who pay for their own basics, shelter and conveniences are expected to provide these things for those who do not make such provisions. They are taxed to make it happen.

Most folks are resolved to avoid risky sexual liaisons and practices. Other folks choose to pursue those risky liaisons and practices. How has it become the obligation of the careful to provide health care for those who are reckless?

Some folks decide to forgo working and live by begging from others. How did it become the responsibility of those who work to provide for the non-workers?

Americans, who follow Christ, gladly give of their means for charitable purposes. In fact they are the most charitable block of people on the planet. Their generosity is a reflection of their love for God and their pity for those who suffer because of circumstances that are beyond their control.

It is true that there are people who of their own will would give little or nothing to charity. Liberalism’s view of charity is to take money from others and give it to those constituents they hope will then show their appreciation by voting for them. This kind of charity is poured out upon the deserving and the undeserving alike. It does not take into consideration such things as personal responsibility or personal effort to provide for self. It helps to create dependence rather than helping people become self sufficient. It is ripe for abuse and thus much of it is consumed by fraud.

We are told that today half the American population looks to government for some or all of their needs. Since the government gets its funds by taxing those who work and earn money, this means that every self-sufficient worker is made to carry the load for others who may or may not deserve the government funds they receive.

While the secularist politician scorns Christians and their religion, when a follower of Christ questions their heavy taxation for social welfare, the secularist belittles him for not being like Jesus. Most secularists would not recognize Jesus if they met and talked with him!
