Attorney General Eric Holder has charged that the United States is "nation of cowards" regarding race. This is a remarkable statement coming from a black man who is serving under our first black president. Several other blacks fill high offices in the Obama administration. We have had a black Secretary of State a black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, numerous governors and mayors. Black athletes dominate our professional sports. They hold key spots in national and local media. They are well represented in the world of entertainment. Black women have won beauty pageants. There have been 40 years of affirmative action giving preferences to blacks in hiring and enrollments. Blacks can buy a home and live in any neighborhood, attend any school, church or social organization. They have their "historic black colleges and universities," their black congressional caucus and black professional societies, etc.
Many "civil rights" activists and black politicians such as Holder have learned that accusations of racism against their white critics or opponents can be very effective in intimidating and silencing them. With the support of the liberal media they can destroy, in a matter of days, a successful career by labeling an opponent as a racist. Whether he is guilty or not does not matter. The charge itself is a coup de grace. The majority of Americans have been doing something positive about race while folks like Mr. Holder are still playing the race card to advance their cause.
