Our new president won his election on the promise of change. Change comes in three varieties. There are changes that are needed. They are wholesome, positive and beneficial. They correct things that are wrong, counterproductive or oppressive. There are changes that are of no consequence. No harm will come from their implementation. However, there are some changes that are bad. They are destructive and detrimental to the common good of the people and nation. They promote the bad and diminish the good.
* The selfish need to change and learn the value of being concerned for the welfare of others.
* The greedy need to learn the merits of sharing with others.
* The lazy need to change and learn the value of working and paying ones own way in life.
* The unproductive should change and become productive workers.
* The lawless need to change and become law-abiding citizens.
* The decadent need to change. Decency and virtue are a far superior way of life.
* Those whose conduct and speech are vile and shameful need to change. Respectable speech and conduct have much more to commend them.
* Those who have neglected their spiritual welfare need to change. They need to seek God (Acts 17:27); to search the Scriptures (Acts 17:11); to turn away from their sinful conduct and claim the great salvation offered by Jesus (Heb. 2:1).
* Those not ready to meet God in judgment need to change (II Cor. 5:10). The Bible calls such change repentance. Without genuine repentance, a person will perish (Luke 13:3).
* Those who have never done so need to confess Christ's name openly before men (Matt. 10:32) and be united with him by and in baptism (Rom. 6:3-4; Mark 16:16).
The proposed political changes may or may not be implemented. They may or may not be beneficial. They may not last beyond the present administration. But the personal changes you make in your life can benefit you for eternity!
